Headstrong Valencia defeat Real Madrid in highly grudge fixture
Spanish giants
Real Madrid have paid dearly for conceding two quick goals in their La
Liga fixture against home side Valencia on Wednesday night, February 22.
Barely
four minutes into the massive encounter, Simone Zaza opened the scoring
for the hosts in a spectacular fashion to put his side ahead.
The home side made their
intentions clear five minutes later when Fabian Orellana doubled the
lead for Valencia to send the entire Mestalla stadium into the wild.
Although
Real Madrid took the larger share of possession in the first half, the
hosts were formidable in defense with goalkeeper Diego Alves making
spectacular saves.
Regular suspect Cristiano Ronaldo
eventually pulled one back for the league leaders through a sublime
header as both teams went into the break with Valencia leading 2 – 1.
As
expected, Madrid returned from the tunnel firing from all cylinders,
but somehow, could not find the back of the net; their closest chance
late-on was headed wide by Mangala; and that was how it ended.
