A 26-year-old man has reportedly stabbed his 18-year-old girlfriend in a hotel room in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital. The man took to his heels when the wailing of the victim attracted the attention of other guests in the guest house who came to her rescue. The victim was identified as Miss Faith Pius The guest house is located at Biogbolo area of Yenagoa. A guest said that the suspect escaped when other guests and residents in the neighbourhood rushed to the scene. The source, who pleaded anonymity, said the incident happened on Friday night. Miss Faith was rushed to a private clinic where she was treated and the wounds stitched. “ But she developed complications on Saturday and she died on Sunday morning ,’’ the source said. An Assistant Superintendent of Nigerian Customs has allegedly committed suicide in the Lungu Village area of Gwarinpa, Abuja The cause of the suicide was yet to be ascertained. Sources said the man, identified as Christian, 44, locked himself in a room and hung himself with a rope on Saturday. A source said the deceased, who was unmarried, was staying with his brother and was said to have been recently transferred to Lagos before the incident happened. The Gwarinpa Divisional Police Officer, CSP Nuruddeen Sabo, said the brother whom the deceased stayed with was at a barber’s shop when the incident happened. He said the man was confirmed dead at the Kubwa General Hospital. “Exhibits recovered include some drugs and knife.” Preliminary investigation, he said, had revealed that the deceased was suffering from depression.

This young man was allegedly killed and properties destroyed by political thugs who attacked him in Tagwaye town in Doguwa LGA of Kano state. The reason for this gruesome attack was not revealed as other vehicles and properties were destroyed by the hoodlums in the area.

Expressing dismay at the cold treatment given to the motion sponsored by Goodluck Opiah, the civil society organisations described the action as unpatriotic and provocative. They contended that the people of the area have suffered untold environmental pollution and degradation over the years due to oil exploration while the...
